WHAT DID SPYDER LEAVE OUT ?
Lots of things actually, stuff that even I don’t remember. He’s a secretive guy, thats why his name is Spyder. So let’s start with his life on earth before he was bound to the HQ.
HIS EARTH LIFE.
In his early-mid 20’s, he led the activist group called “SOAS” or Society Of Anarchist Socialists. Their beliefs were to dismantle the government that heavily oppressed them, treated them as robotic workers, allowed the people to starve while they lounged about in their mansions.
On his earth 19292, Information Overload was a crisis, however one could no longer live without some sort of technology in their body giving them an advantage— this was at the government’s fault. Spyder was one of the street cyber docs that did these surgeries, that attempted to cure Information Overload…and you know what happened to him.
Earth 19292 was a dystopian place to live in (in terms of visuals, think of cyberpunk 2077.) and it wasn’t just in his area of East Village. Flock cameras everywhere, tracking your every move, oppressive police force— Spyder did his best to prevent that from affecting him. He learnt hacking along the way to turn off any cameras he’d need to, to erase any trace of him, to erase himself from the system that wanted him dead.
HOW’D HE GET INTO THE SPIDER SOCIETY ?
He was there for the early days, though let’s go pre-society. While Miguel caused the collapse of Earth-928B, Spyder was already a step ahead. He noticed the wavelength of his multiverse tracker was off, and a universe had been destroyed. It wasn’t by natural causes, something had caused it, and his investigations into it eventually led him to Miguel. Spyder made a plan to lure Miguel to Earth-19292 in order to interrogate him, and clearly successfully did so. Leaving Miguel surprised, he invited Spyder to the society. While Spyder was busy with Earth 19292, he agreed because of the high quality equipment and a lab he’d be promised with.
Over the course of 16 months, Spyder focused on the HQ though would frequently join recruitment missions. However, half a month before the recruitment of Earth-65’s Gwen Stacy, Information Overload got to Spyder. Earth-332’s Jessica Drew had found him convulsively shaking on the floor of his office, with some sort of neon green venom flowing through his veins. With her little knowledge on Spyder’s self-surgery projects, she connected Spyder’s brain hard drive to a computer and removed whatever files deemed unnecessary- luckily that worked, however it wasn’t fast enough. Due to the lack of time, Information Overload was in his body long enough to be some sort of parasite to live in him for the rest of his life.
HOW IS HE LIKE ?
He’s a complicated person, but bipolar would be a good way to explain him in one word. He’s a workaholic and it’s impossible to have any sort of fun with him if it’s not music, and even so he’d rather work while listening to music. He doesn’t really fool around, though he still has some sort of sense of humor like the average Spider-Man… it’s just he’s usually sarcastic, never really laughs. Spyder is depressed most of the time, it’s rare to see him in a good mood and it’s impossible to get him in one too. To summarize, he’s kind of like Miguel. Nothing really caused him to be this way, he just learnt from an early age that the world is against him and it’s constantly on his mind, leaving him with never ending stress and anger against his government.
Spyder can be an asshole most of the times, and frankly he doesn’t care. He’s not “nonchalant” or anything, he just genuinely doesn’t and won’t care until his issues with oppression have been dealt with. Sometimes he’ll have a filter, sometimes he won’t, the same goes for how rude he could be. Sometimes he’ll slam a door on your face, other times he’ll actually wait for you to explain and THEN slam the door on your face.
WHAT DID HE DO BEFORE THE INFORMATION OVERLOAD ? HOW WAS HE AT BEING SPIDER-MAN AND HOW’D HE COME TO BE ?
I’ll start off with the second question first so it’s in time order. His apartment on Earth-19292 is very dirty, so bugs crawling around was common for him, so much so that he didn’t notice the bug crawling on his hand while he was working on some code. Anyways, he eventually came up with a disguise thats extremely similar to Spider-Noir (they’ve argued about it before), though without the hat. What he added to his disguise was signal jammers— this made it harder to study the way he moved around, no cameras would be available to look back on footage.
Unlike most Spiders, Spyder never worked with the police force or government. In fact, he’d sometimes steal their cases and solve them himself, web them whenever they’d come to a crime scene, etc. Sometimes when he’d return with criminals and their solved cases, he’d ridicule the police force for “slacking off at work.” He was very distrustful of them, and knew they’d probably be bought off anyways.
WHAT DOES HE DO SPECIFICALLY NOW ?
Nowadays, he’s mainly just a repairman and technician. He has three areas in the HQ— his office, laboratory, and a section for him to work on damaged suits. Sure, the spiders could fix it themselves, but he was fast. Since it’s been said that he’s “bound to the HQ”, you might be wondering where he sleeps. He doesn’t. Whenever he does though, it’s usually at his desk, or when he’s forced to take time off by the big three he’ll just go back to his apartment in Earth-19292.
It’s said that he does help out on missions whenever he can, and I could tell you about one of them. They had an alternate Green Goblin that ended up in another universe. Originally Miguel was there alone, then he needed to call Jessica for backup, then Peter B., and then Spyder. It was a hard one to deal with. Miguel kept being overrun by Green Goblin’s pumpkin bombs, Peter B. ended up being distracted by Mayday the entire time, Jessica was fighting against Green Goblin while Spyder assisted her with web fluid, tackling down Green Goblin and thinking of possible ways to take him down, etc. It ended with Peter B. rushing to leave so he could change Mayday, Miguel recovering and Spyder and Jessica having to deal with transporting Green Goblin back to his universe.
Besides once in a while situations like that, Spyder is mainly at the HQ. He also helps train the technical crew or any new recruits / spiders.
PLOT HOLES.
Now, there may be some plot holes with him that I’ll go over in this section.
“If he ran SOAS and handles the gizmo updates, how does he allow such surveillance on them?” He doesn’t- he helped Hobie make his own bootleg without all the tracking during one of their music sessions, and he’d do the same for anyone else who asks. He has his own bootleg too, it’s just designed as an exact replica.
For any other plot holes I may have missed, feel free to use the chat or mailbox.
